Goal Setting: How you can be 100% more productive now.

Goal setting is something that seems simple, but there is a bit of a knack to it. It’s not that it’s difficult. With a few tweaks, you can be on your way.

Goal Setting

Would you like to increase your productivity?

Would you like to do those little jobs that you keep meaning to?

Would you like to finally take control of your life and have 2019 be the year you finally took action?

If you answered yes to any of these, then read on. If you answered no, then this article isn’t for you. No pressure but I’ll see you later

Are they gone?

Good. Let’s get on with it then shall we?

It’s good that you answered yes. You’re probably like me. Life is good but some aspects aren’t where they should be, and with a bit of effort you can get it back on track.

Goals are for losers.

You know about the book How to Fail at Almost Everything and still win big. In it, Scott Adams talks about how goals for losers. You know what? Despite the title of this article, I agree. Goals are for losers. Scott writes about how systems are better than goals.

Scott knows what he’s talking about, he created the comic strip Dilbert and is a bestselling authour. He predicted Trump’s victory when everyone else thought he was a joke.

What I’m trying to say is that Scott is smart. When he talks you listen.

Scott says that you should adopt a systems approach to life, you take a systems approach to life.

I did, it was great.

Since reading the book back in 2016, I implemented systems. I wanted to improve as a writer, so I wrote every day. That was the system. Instead of sitting around waiting for the muse to come to me I would prepare for its arrival by writing every day.

I wanted to lose weight and get in better shape. Refusing to set myself goals there were just a few exercises that I would do in the hope that my weight would stay down. For the most part, it worked.

Instead of setting money goals I would do a little each month here and there. Trying to save a little here and pay off a little there.

It was a good set of systems, and I trundled along.

Here’s the thing, there was no end in sight, and it was starting to drag me down.

I was just doing things for the sake of doing things. How long was an appropriate time to do something until I expected to see results?

How long is a piece of string?

Goal oriented

I subscribed to this guy on Youtube and watched this video:

There was something in there that got my interest. It was the mention of mind storming. Typed in the search and it brought me to this video:

In the video, Brian Tracy talks about the power of goal setting. The video made me realise goal setting was a means of reprogramming the subconscious. Once I knew that it all came together for me.

Goal setting: How to

Goal setting sounds simple, but there is a sure way to go about doing it for the best results.

Here is how I have been doing it:

  • Do it before you go to bed, that’s when your subconscious is primed to listen.
  • Date it so that you can look back and see how far you’ve come.
  • At the top, the page “My goals for (insert year) are as follows.
  • Start it with “I”, so your subconscious knows to listen
  • State it in the present tense you are telling your subconscious how it is going to be.
  • Give yourself and end date too. Let your subconscious know that you want this to happen within a specific time frame.

Conclusion

Goal setting has the potential to help you achieve what you want. You will have to do the work. When you are working in tandem with your subconscious, you will see the patterns. Those patterns will help make you get what you want from life.

Say you want a house an example sentence goes like this:

“I move into a house by February 2020.”

It will not come together like magic that’s not the point. Instead, it will make you more open to opportunity. When you see that opportunity, take action.

The question is…

What do you want out of life?
